Cementa 2013
August 10, 2012
In January 2013, I’ll be participating in this new festival with a version of the Groundcover project.
Cementa is a 4 day arts festival in Kandos, NSW. Over 40 emergent and established contemporary artists will come together to make and exhibit art that engages contemporary art practice with the industrial heritage, the surrounding environment and the community of the town. This will include a range of events, performances, and artist tours that will seek to specifically activate the site of the town and celebrate its unique character.

Future Spaces @ Paper Plane Gallery
June 28, 2012
5-22 July, 2012
OPENING WEDNESDAY 4 JULY, 6-8pm
FUTURE SPACES | Connie Anthes, Tully Arnot, Bababa International, Biljana Jancic, Teo Treloar.
As humans, our curiosities take us to the unknown and drive us to explore new realms of possibility. We desire what is different, unique and new, yet relish in the familiar and safe. We are constantly looking for other spaces; alternate spheres that offer the pretend, the future, the imagined, the better, the worse – always something different to where we are currently. Future Spaces explores the artist’s capacity to transform and create new spaces that transport us into familiar and unfamiliar territory to experiment with notions of what is possible.
Curated by Lucy Ainsworth.

Studio + Sawtooth collaboration
January 17, 2012
2012 is shaping up to be busy. With a new studio being built (pictured below, with me inserting “bonge talismans” into wall cavities) and in the midst of prepping for 2 Sydney shows, there will now be a collaborative project undertaken between Germany and Oz with artist Alexander Jackson-Wyatt, to be exhibited at Tasmania’s Sawtooth ARI in Launceston during September 2012.

The Hobart City Art Prize opened this past Friday. Didn’t win the cash, but Tasmanians are so nice you can’t hold it against them. And I got to visit MONA. Also, 3 very talented Taswegians won prizes: Megan Keating, Colin Langridge and Joel Crosswell. The show is running until September 18 at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery in Hobart, TAS.

D.I.A. @ MOP PROJECTS
June 16, 2011
A new collaborative work will be launched tonight at MOP Projects in Chippendale from 6pm. As a Firstdraft Director 2009-10, I had the privilege of running the gallery alongside a great group of artists (Grace Archibald, Lionel Bawden, Debbie Pryor, Georgie Meagher, Dylan Quirk, Kate Scardifield, Jessica Tyrrell) and, happily, I have now been able to make work with them. This show forms part of an ARI showcase series featuring Locksmith Gallery and Peloton, and runs from 16 June – 3 July 2011. MOP is at 39 Abercrombie St, Chippendale.

GEEK PEEP SHOW
March 13, 2011
Artist Connie Anthes and physicist Julian Berengut have teamed up to create science-fictional landscapes and futuristic effects, using light alone. The examples staged for ‘Collisions’ are Tantalum (East wall) and Plato’s Dream #1 (South wall).
The genre of science fiction is widely attributed to humble beginnings in the 18th Century with two stories by French philosopher/satirist Voltaire: Micromégas which describes an alien visit to Earth and Plato’s Dream, which describes godlike superbeings imagining perfect worlds and then creating imperfect ones.

COLLISIONS
March 2, 2011
As part of Art Month Sydney, Collisions engages the studio artists at INDEX in a collaborative relationship with a participant outside of their chosen medium, discipline, or even from outside of the visual arts. By introducing the element of an external participant, the artists are confronted with the limits of their solitary studio practice and compelled to improvise according to the changed dynamic of shared making. Participants: Connie Anthes, Anthony Bartok, Dr. Julian Berengut, Justin Cooper, Glen Davis, Paula Gowans, Gilbert Grace, Jake Lloyd Jones, Poppy, Georgina Pollard, Alex Wisser.
